WEOG Intake Opens January 12: Creating Opportunity Through Meaningful Work

For many people in British Columbia, finding meaningful work isn’t just about motivation—it’s about access. Barriers like limited experience, gaps in employment, or systemic challenges can make it difficult to take that first step. The Work Experience Opportunities Grant (WEOG) was created to help change that.

Opening for its second intake on January 12, WEOG partners with non-profit organizations across the province to create paid, short-term work placements for people on income and disability assistance, as well as Indigenous people receiving equivalent federal assistance. Each placement offers at least 200 hours of hands-on, paid work, giving participants the chance to build skills, confidence, and real pathways toward future employment.

By funding wages for time-limited roles within non-profit organizations, WEOG helps remove financial barriers while creating meaningful work experiences. Participants gain valuable, real-world skills—and importantly, the income they earn through the program does not affect their income or disability-assistance benefits.

For non-profit employers, WEOG is an opportunity to strengthen programs and services, grow organizational capacity, and foster inclusive workplaces that reflect the communities they serve. The grant is available province-wide and supports a wide range of non-profit sectors.
